
AFL names Quarterfinal Round players of the week

NEW YORK â Arizona Rattlers quarterback SHERDRICK BONNER, Colorado Crush defensive specialist AHMAD HAWKINS and Chicago Rush fullback/linebacker BOB MC MILLEN have been named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and U.S. Army Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Quarterfinal Round of the 2004 season.
Bonner (6-4, 240, Cal State-Northridge), who is in 11th AFL season, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors by leading the No. 1-seeded Arizona Rattlers (12-5) to a 59-42 victory over the No. 8-seeded Los Angeles Avengers (9-8) on Sunday. He completed 26-of-33 passes (78.8 percent) for 227 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. With the victory, the Rattlers advance to the Semifinal Round for the third straight season. This marks 16th time that the five-time All-Arena performer has earned an AFL weekly honor and third time this season (Week 11 and 14).
Hawkins (5-10, 188, Virginia), who is in his second AFL season, helped lead the No. 5-seeded Colorado Crush (12-5) to a 47-44 victory over the No. 4-seeded New Orleans VooDoo (11-6) on Sunday. He recorded 9.0 total tackles, two pass breakups and a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave the Crush early momentum. This marks the first time that the former Cavalier has earned an AFL weekly honor.
McMillen (6-2, 254, Illinois Benedictine) led the No. 3-seeded Chicago Rush (12-5) in all facets during their 59-49 victory over the No. 6-seeded Orlando Predators (10-7) on Sunday. The 10-year veteran tallied five rushes for 24 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a 9-yard reception on offense. McMillen also recorded 2.5 total tackles and had an interception that was returned 33 yards to set up a score in the first quarter. The victory by the Rush advances them to their second semifinal appearance (2002) in team history. This marks the sixth time that the former All-Arena performer has earned an AFL weekly honor and second time this season (Week 7).
Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Bob McMillen, Colorado's Damian Harrell and San Jose's Mark Grieb.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Kelvin Hunter, Chicago's Jamie McGourty and San Jose's Rashied Davis.
U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Orshawante Bryant, New Orleans' Lamont Moore and Tampa Bay's Lawrence Samuels.
