Schaumburg, Illinois - The Lake Erie Crushers fell at the hands of the Schaumburg Boomers Friday night to start a must-win series for Lake Erie.
The Crushers asserted themselves in the lead in the beginning stages of the game.
Connor Oliver blasted a homer on the tenth pitch of his at bat in the top of the third to give the Crushers the lead. It was his third home run of the 2021 season.
Javier Betancourt added an RBI to his name in the contest to give the Crushers a 2-0 advantage.
The Boomers would do the rest of the scoring in the game. The first place Central Division team did not disappoint the home crowd.
A four-run seventh inning shut the door on the Crushers chances on making the comeback in the ballgame.
Schaumburg finished off the Crushers 8-2 in game one of the series.
Ryan Feierabend was dealt the loss after going 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.
Schaumburg starter Ryan Middendorf turned in a solid outing and got the win. He lasted seven innings with seven hits and two runs, accompanied by five strikeouts.
Lake Erie has lost six straight games and have a record of 24-26 through 50 games.
The middle game of series between these two squads will get underway at 7:00 pm EST Saturday night.
