Syracuse Resigns Defenseman Paul Traynor Shawn Legault Recalled; Randy Murphy Released

Syracuse, NY (March 30, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Chris Nielsen and center Andrej Nedorost. The Crunch also announced that they resigned defenseman Paul Traynor to his second professional try-out contract. In addition the Crunch recalled right wing Shawn Legault from Elmira (UHL) and released center Randy Murphy.

Nielsen, 22, appeared in 47 games with Syracuse this season recording 12 goals, 12 assists and 18 penalty minutes. In 16 games with Columbus earlier this season Nielsen tallied 2 goals, 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes. A native of Moshi, Tanzania, Nielsen was acquired by Columbus from the New York Islanders for a 4th and 9th round selection in the 2000 Entry Draft on May 11, 2000.

Nedorost, 21, recorded 5 goals, 13 assists and 28 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Crunch this season. He is expected to make his National Hockey League debut tonight when the Blue Jackets travel to San Jose. A native of Trencin, Slovakia, Nedorost was the Blue Jackets' 10th pick, 286th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.

Traynor, 24, has played in 20 games for Syracuse, recording 3 assists and 10 penalty minutes. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Traynor signed his first P.T.O. with Syracuse on February 8, 2002.

Legault, 24, recorded 37 penalty minutes in seven games for the Crunch earlier this season during two separate recalls. In 65 games with Elmira, Legault has 11 goals, 13 assists and 365 penalty minutes. A native of Legal, Alberta, Legault signed an AHL contract with Syracuse on August 27, 2001.

Murphy, 29, made his AHL and Syracuse debut last night in Rochester finishing the game with a +1 rating. Murphy will rejoin Elmira (UHL).

Syracuse travels to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tonight for a 7 p.m. match-up against the Penguins. All the action can be heard on SportsRadio 620 WHEN with Crunch play-by-play man Bob McElligott. The Crunch returns home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Rochester Americans.
