Moose clinch playoff spot

March 30, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

With tonight's 3-2 overtime loss in Hartford, the Manitoba Moose clinched a berth in the 66th edition of the Calder Cup playoffs in their first year as an American Hockey League club. The team is still battling for a playoff seed in the competitive Eastern Conference. Manitoba currently stands in eighth place pending the finals of Saturday's games, only one point behind sixth place Hamilton Bulldogs, at 81 points.

The Moose's final playoff spot has not be determined yet and they are looking to try to secure the coveted sixth spot in the Eastern Conference and receive a first round bye in the playoffs.

The Calder Cup playoff format consists of 20 contenders being eligible, by clinching a playoff spot, to contend for the Calder Cup after the season ends on April 7. Within each conference, division winners are seeded one through three based on points, and the remaining clubs are seeded four to ten. Best-of-three qualifying series (played entirely at the home of the higher seed) – with the seventh seed hosting the tenth seed and the eighth seed hosting the ninth seed in each conference – will determine the 16-team field for the Calder Cup 2002 Playoffs. The conference quarterfinals will be best-of-five, and the remaining three rounds will be best-of-seven.

Information on playoff tickets for sale will be released at a future date.
