SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Matthew Peca scored twice, while Kristers Gudlevskis shined for the Syracuse Crunch with 41 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory against the Albany Devils tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
The Crunch earned a big two points as they hold on to the North Division lead and advance to 32-21-6-5 on the season. Syracuse is now 3-2-1-0 in the eight-game season series against Albany.
Gudlevskis earned his 13th win of the season turning aside 41-of-42 shots between the pipes for the Crunch. Ken Appleby stopped 26-of-28 in defeat for the Devils. Syracuse went 1-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
After two scoreless periods, the Crunch broke the stalemate 2:10 into the final frame. Michael Bournival skated the puck into the zone and sent a centering feed for Peca. The center controlled the pass and sent it top shelf over Appleby's shoulder. Erik Condra earned a point on the opening tally.
With 2:51 remaining in the game, the Devils got on the board to tie it up and force overtime. After receiving a pass from Seth Helgeson, Karl Stollery fired a shot from the blue line that was tipped in front of the cage by Brian Gibbons.
Syracuse secured the win with a power-play goal 1:13 into the extra frame. Matt Taormina slid a feed for Peca to one-time from the right circle. Tye McGinn recorded the secondary helper on the game-winner.
