Syracuse Crunch News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Syracuse Crunch's 10-game winning streak came to an end with a 4-2 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms tonight at the PPL Center.
The Crunch pick up their first loss since Nov. 19 as they move to 14-10-1-2 on the season.
Connor Ingram turned aside 29-of-33 shots in net for the Crunch, while John Muse earned the win with 22 saves for the Phantoms. Syracuse was unable to convert on four power play opportunities and went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Syracuse opened scoring with 2:07 remaining in the first period. Mathieu Joseph carried the puck across the blue line and left a drop pass for Matthew Peca to pick the far corner from the left circle. Erik Cernak tallied a point on the opening goal.
The Phantoms scored three in the second period to take the lead. Halfway through the frame, Danick Martel sent the puck deep into the zone and around the end boards. Phil Varone picked it up at the half wall and sent a centering feed for Chris Conner to redirect in from the crease. With 5:12 remaining in the stanza, Corban Knight tipped in Will O'Neill's shot from the left point. Nicolas Aube-Kubel collected the secondary assist. Two minutes later, Lehigh Valley capitalized on a failed clearing attempt during the power play. Greg Carey backhanded the mishandled puck from the slot. Oskar Lindblom and Conner recorded the assists.
Syracuse pulled within one at the 12:55 mark of the third period. After a series of attempts, Lynch finally got a stick on a rebound and jammed it in from the post. Carter Verhaeghe and Alexander Volkov recorded points on the goal.
Lehigh Valley went back up by two just minutes later during a 2-on-1 rush. Knight came down the right wing side and threw a last minute pass for Martel to chip in. Aube-Kubel earned the secondary helper.
The Crunch were unable to climb back and fell for the first time in 10 games.
Syracuse travels to Laval to face the Rocket on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
