Crunch Downed by Senators

Binghamton, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were downed by the Binghamton Senators 5-2 tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Tonight's loss drops the Crunch to an overall record of 13-5-1-1 and road record of 10-2-0-1.

Despite the Crunch penalty kill unit preventing goals on eight Senators power plays a hat trick from Stephane Da Costa lifted Binghamton past the Crunch.

The Crunch was unable to score on four power play chances and were outshot 38- 23. Crunch goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 33 of 38 shots.

The Senators struck first with a goal from Da Costa at the 10:23 mark of the first period. Tokarski made the initial save on a shot from Shane Prince, but the rebound came loose and was knocked in by Da Costa from the right side.

Tyler Johnson evened the score with a shorthanded tally with 4:54 to play in the first period. Johnson tapped a cross-crease pass from Ondrej Palat past Senators goaltender Ben Bishop. The goal is the Crunch's third shorthanded goal of the season.

Da Costa scored his second goal of the game 3:35 into the second period. Cole Schneider played the puck from behind the net to Da Costa who one-timed the puck past Tokarski for a 2-1 lead.

Binghamton added to their lead with a goal from Jakob Silfverberg. Silfverberg's shot from the left side of a two-on-one found the top corner of Tokarski's net with 11:16 to play in the middle frame.

Crunch left wing Danick Gauthier cut the Senators lead to one with his second goal of the season. Gautheir split two Binghamton defenseman before backhanding the puck past Bishop with 1:41 to play in the second stanza.

The Senators regained their two goal lead with a goal from Patrick Wiercioch. Wiercioch's shot from the point made it through traffic into the net with 11:27 into the final period. Less than a minute later Da Costa completed the hat trick for a final score of 5-2.

Crunchables: Tyler Johnson leads the Crunch in scoring with 23 points and leads the league in goals scored with 15...Richard Panik had a league-leading 12 game point streak snapped...Tonight's game was the fifth consecutive road game for the Crunch and the final game of a three-in-three weekend.
