Crew Returns to League Action and Hosts FC Dallas

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (4-5-6, 18 points) hosts FC Dallas (6-7-4, 22 points) as both teams return to Major League Soccer action following the 2014 FIFA World Cup break in a contest at Crew Stadium tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika and John Bluem are set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.

Following the match, fans are encouraged to remain in their seats for a special Red, White and Crew fireworks extravaganza, presented by Scioto Downs Racino.

Tonight's match against FC Dallas is the first and only meeting between the two teams from opposite conferences. Columbus defeated the Hoops, 4-2, in the most recent meeting between the two teams on September 29, 2013. It's the 43rd regular-season meeting in the all-time season series between the two teams dating back to 1996, and Columbus holds a slight lead in the series, with a record of 18-16-8 and a 12-4-6 record in Columbus against FC Dallas.

The Black & Gold look to continue their recent success against the Hoops. Since falling in both 2007 League matches, the Crew has secured points in eight out of its last 10 matches against FC Dallas dating back to August 16, 2008. The Crew has won its last two matches against the Hoops and within this current 10-match trend and the Black & Gold put together a four-match unbeaten streak (2-0-2) from August 2009 through April 2011.

This evening's tilt is League contest number 16 in 2014 for the Crew as the Black & Gold return to MLS action with a 4-5-6 record. After the game against FC Dallas, the Crew has several pairs of grouped home and road matches to begin the middle of summer. Following back-to-back road tests at Colorado (July 4) and New York (July 12), the team returns to Crew Stadium for a stretch of three home matches in eight days, including League clashes against Sporting KC (July 16) and Montreal (July 19) before an international friendly against Crystal Palace (July 23).
