Craig Berube Hired as Chicago Wolves Head Coach

June 29, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Chicago Wolves News Release

Former Philadelphia Flyers coach Craig Berube, who played in 1,054 games during a 17-year National Hockey League career, was named Wednesday as the Chicago Wolves' head coach. Berube has signed a two-year contract and becomes the ninth head coach in Wolves history.

"The Wolves organization is excited to have a head coach of his stature," said Wolves general manager Wendell Young. "He will bring a presence on and off the ice."

The 50-year-old Calahoo, Alberta, native served two years as Philadelphia's head coach. He moved up from the assistant's job three games into the 2013-14 season and guided the Flyers to third place in the Metropolitan Division, which led to a seven-game series in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He also handled the 2014-15 season and posted a 75-58-28 record (.553) during his Flyers tenure.

Berube spent 11 years as a coach in the Philadelphia organization, which included two seasons as an assistant and slightly more than one full season as a head coach for their American Hockey League affiliate. He was an assistant for the Philadelphia Phantoms squad that defeated the Wolves in the 2005 Calder Cup Final, then posted a 52-31-6-3 record (.601) as the Phantoms leader during the 2007-08 season as well as the first 6 games of the 2006-07 campaign.

Berube played for Philadelphia, Toronto, Calgary, Washington and the New York Islanders during his 17-year career. He posted 61 goals, 98 assists and 3,149 penalty minutes in regular-season play -- he ranks seventh in NHL history in the latter category -- and notched 3 goals, 1 assist and 211 penalty minutes in 89 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.

Berube and his wife, Rebecca, have two sons, Jake and Nashota, and one daughter, Charlotte.

The four-time league champion Wolves host their 2016-17 home opener on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Allstate Arena. To obtain the best deals on season tickets or group outings, visit or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.
