Central Valley Coyotes News Release

(Fresno, CA) - The Central Valley Coyotes (10-6) made it two out of three against division rival Tri-Cities Fever (4-12), beating the Fever 71-64. The win secured the Coyotes as the 5th seed in the National Conference for 2009 ArenaCup Playoffs and a trip to Arkansas to play the Twisters next Sunday in Little Rock.

The Fever scored first when former Fresno City College and Coyote LaMonte Jones (7-96 yds 2 TD) caught an 18-yard pass from QB Tali Ena (7-16 141 yds 3 TD). This would be the only time the Fever saw the end zone in the first quarter.

In typical Coyote fashion the answer was short and sweet when they only needed three plays to score when QB Clay Groefsema (20-30 181 yds 6 TD 1 Int) connected with WR Tonae Martin (4-31 yds 1 TD) for his only touchdown of the game. A missed extra point this put the Coyotes down 7-6.

The Fever were unable to score on their next possession turning the ball over when Kicker Kyle Hooper missed wide left. The Coyotes took over on their own 15-yard line after a kick catch interference penalty. The Coyote turned that Fever miscue into a score when Groefsema connect for the first time in the game with Schutt Offensive Player of the Game WR Jason Barnes (11 81 yds 3 TD) putting the Coyotes up 13-7.

Barnes would later on in the night to break the Coyotes Career Reception Record with ### (NEED FINAL NUMBER) previously held by former Coyote Jones. Barnes entered the night needing only ten catches he got 11.

One other record fell this time a defensive record, Single Season Sacks that was previously held by Ricky Lung-Wai of 9.5 set in 2003 was broke twice during the night. Both DL Donyell Booker and Ben McCombs came into the night with 9.5 sacks, on the fist sack of the night in a fitting turn of events both meet at the quarterback to record a half a sack each and put both at 10 for the season. Though Booker would add one more McCombs ended the night with four and the single season record with 13.5, this earn him the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

Not to be out done and on his way to earning his second straight JLS Ironman of the Game Jomo Wilson ran two kick off's for touchdowns also for the second game in a row. Jomo had 179 kick return yards, 69 receiving yards, and even added a tackle.

The Coyotes now get ready for the first round of the 2009 Playoffs, as they will travel to Little Rock to take on the Arkansas Twister on Sunday August 3 at 4 PM. This is the Coyote third straight playoff appearance.
