Coyotes sweep Hawks 61-42

(Everett, WA)-The Central Valley Coyotes sweep the season series with the Everett Hawks by beating the Hawks 61-42 on Saturday night. The loss by the Hawks ended their playoff hopes, while the win by the Coyotes continues them on the road to the 2006 playoffs and a first ever playoff birth.

The Hawks came out strong scoring on their first play from scrimmage when quarterback Brian Baker connected with Milton Myers for a 22 yard touchdown reception. The Coyotes answered on there first drive, needed only a few plays to score when Scott Rislov threw to LaMonte Jones for 35 yard touchdown reception.

After the Hawks scored on their next possession the teams each traded fumbled to the other, the Coyotes than scored and took control of the game from there, the score at half time was 28-21.

The second half scoring was started when Vai Nota ran 19 yards for a touchdown, from there Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. and quarterback Scott Rislov took control of the game. Rislov ended the game throwing 7 touchdowns with no interceptions, and getting him the "Schutt Offensive Player of the Game" honors. Rislov who went into the game with tied for the league lead with 71 touchdowns now has 78 with only 8 interceptions.

LaMonte Jones was Rislov favorite receiver with 7 receptions for 114 yard and 3 touchdowns. Jones also had a stellar game on defense earning him the "U.S. Army Ironman of the Game" honors. Jones defense was supplemented with play from "ADT Defensive Player of the Game" Kenny Haslip, each had an interception. Haslip interception came in the final minute of the game sealing the outcome.

The Hawks playoff hopes are all but over, while the Coyotes continue to help drive for the franchises first ever playoff appearance. While the division leading Spokane Shock (9-2) beat the Albany Conquest (5-7) 49-46 the Coyotes who went into the game tied with the Bakersfield (7-4) for second place await the out come of the Blitz game against the Arkansas Twisters (7-4) taking place on Sunday.

The Coyotes have a bye week next week but will return home on July 8th to take on the Stockton Lightning (5-7) at Selland Arena, kick-off is scheduled for 7:15. This is be an important must win division game for both teams.
