Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

The Edinburg Coyotes of United League Baseball (ULB) announced today that first baseman MayoBanex Santana has signed for the 2008 season. This will be Santana's debut in Independent Baseball after playing in four different affiliated baseball clubs for the last eight years.

Santana was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Chicago White Sox on May 3, 1999. In three seasons with the White Sox organization, he posted a .284 batting average and collected 11 home runs. He went on to play in the minor league system of the Arizona Diamondbacks where he played Single A ball for four seasons. In 2004, he played for the El Paso Diablos, which was a Double A Diamondback affiliate, where he played 15 games before making stops with the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics organizations.

"I expect great things from him since he had some success in minor league baseball," field manager Vince Moore said. "If he wants to go back to affiliated ball then this pit stop in Edinburg should help him get to where he wants to go."

Coyote's closer Julio Castro will also be in the line-up once again for the upcoming season. Castro first joined the team in 06' as he posted up a 6-1 record while striking out 33 batters. Last year, Castro led the team and was third overall in the United League in saves with 19. Castro was signed as an undrafted free agent in 1998 by the Chicago White Sox organization where he spent six seasons in affiliated ball. He was granted free agency on Oct. 15, 2004.
