Central Valley Coyotes News Release
(Fresno, CA)-The Central Valley Coyotes are pleased to announce they have been assigned, by the Af2 League Office, defensive back Jeff Singleton II from Northern Arizona University.
Singleton is no stranger to the Central Valley as he graduated from Corcoran High School in 2001 and then went on to play at College of the Sequoias in Visalia. While playing for Roger Kelly at COS Singleton was a two time All Central Valley Conference defensive back that in 2002 was voted the conference's "Defensive Player of the Year". Singleton would transfer to NAU in 2004 and make an immediate impact as he was honored as the Lumberjacks "Defensive Newcomer of the Year". In two years at NAU Singleton recorded 120 tackles, 3 interceptions and 6 pass break-ups.
"It's great when we have an opportunity to bring back to the Central Valley players of Jeff's caliber," stated Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "I coached against Jeff two years at the junior college level and it will be great to have him on our side for a change."
Despite Singleton's on the field accomplishments he has also made a name for himself off the field. After earning 2004 Big Sky All Academic and Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete honors, Singleton was named to the 2005 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 8 Team. In 2005, he was also selected as the best of the brightest from the NCAA college gridiron as he was a semifinalist for the 2005 Draddy Award, which is considered the "Academic Heisman Trophy".
"It was an honor to have my hard work in the classroom recognized nationwide," said Singleton of his academic honors. "It's going to be great to come back home after being gone for two years. I want to show my appreciation to everyone from my hometown and in the Valley that helped get where I am today and helping the Coyotes bring a championship to the Valley just may do that."
