Central Valley Coyotes News Release
The Central Valley Coyotes have been assigned by the af2 league office WR Michael Lawrence (6'1, 185) from Minnesota State University (formerly Minnesota-Mankato) and St. Paul, Minnesota native, OL/DL Freddie Weinke (6'3, 275) from Iowa State.
Lawrence, a speedster and a native of Jacksonville Florida, ran a 20.84 second 200 meter dash in the 2004 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. In 2005, he finished first in the 200 meter dash at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 21.25. In 2006 he looked to repeat his performance from 2005 but came up short with a second place finish and a time of 21.43. Despite playing in only three games with the Coyotes last season this 2006 Indoor Track & Field All-American with a career best in the 60 meter dash of 6.81, found the end zone two times. "Michael is a great athlete with tremendous speed," stated Coyote Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "I'm anxious to see what he can do in a full season."
Weinke, the cousin of Heisman Trophy Winner Chris Weinke (QB, Carolina Panthers), comes from Lawrence Roberts and his Sports Management World Wide & EBA Sports organization. Weinke is the third player to join the Coyotes out of the Lawrence Roberts stable out of Detroit Michigan. Weinke was an All State defensive end on the 1999 Cretin Derham Hall (St. Paul, MN) 5A State Championship football team. He also earned All-Conference, All-Region Midwest (Prep Star Magazine) and was ranked in the Top 120 Players in Country (Max Emfinger Recruiting) Weinke earned a scholarship to the University of South Dakota but transferred to Iowa State in 2002. He was a 2003 Humanitarian Bowl participant but knee injury forced him to sit out the 2003 season and in 2005 he entered the NFL Draft as a free-agent TE. In 2006 he played TE for the Marion Mayhem of the Great Lakes Indoor Football League. "Freddie obviously has had to fight threw some obstacles during his football career," said Biletnikoff. "He is a versatile athlete that hopefully has all his injuries behind him and can get on with his football career with us."
