Central Valley Coyotes News Release
The Central Valley Coyotes added more weapons to an already potent offensive, as the af2 league office recently assigned quarterback Joe Ayoob and wide receiver Jason Barnes to the team for the 2008 season.
The Coyotes, who led the af2 in scoring offense in 2007, can attribute much of that success to the play of Barnes. His 1477 receiving yards and 37 receiving touchdowns led the Coyotes. Barnes also tallied three rushing scores, giving him a total of 40 touchdowns in 2007, which was good for sixth in the af2.
"Anytime you have the opportunity to get a player back of Jason's caliber you're fortunate," said Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "It's not a slam dunk that we get him back for the season since he is still getting attention from a few AFL teams. However, the best thing for our organization is that he gets an AFL contract for the 2008 season."
If Barnes does remain in a Coyotes uniform for the 2008 year, he will join a host of talent at the wide receiver position. Second year man Tonae Martin is back and brings a 1000 yard season in 2007 with him. The Coyotes also have former Oregon State star James Newson on their roster. With Barnes, the trio will make one of the most formidable receiving corps in the league.
The Coyotes also added depth to the quarterback position recently, with the assigning of former Cal and City College of San Francisco signal caller Joe Ayoob. Ayoob was a JUCO All-American at City College of San Francisco in 2004 and led the Rams to a California State title in that season. In limited action through out his two seasons at Cal, Ayoob threw for over 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns.
"I coached against Joe when CCSF so I know how good he is," said Biletnikoff Jr. "He is just the kind of QB that can carry on the tradition at the QB spot we've had the last few years."
The additions of Ayoob and Barnes are of the highest quality as the Coyotes' roster rounds out heading into training camp and the 2008 season.
