Coyotes Get Borba Back for a Fifth Season

January 11, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Central Valley Coyotes News Release

"Coyotes Football is very important to Wes," said Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr.

Weston Borba is important to Coyotes football. This standout all-purpose threat has local ties to the Central Valley and has proven, over the past four seasons, to be a larger than life figure for the Coyotes and the local Community.

A Native of Chowchilla California, Borba was born and bred in the Central Valley and resides there to this day. He Attended St. Mary's College in the San Francisco Bay area. As a Gael, Borba was a star safety and earned many accolades including the Div. I-AA Independent Defensive Player of the Year in 2002.

"Wes is one of the most valuable guys we have in this organization because of his versatility," Biletnikoff Jr. said. "He has played linebacker, defensive back, wide receiver, and was even our back up quarterback for a game in 2005. He can do it all and that is a quality any coach would love to have on his team."

Borba has been a Coyote since coming in to the af2 in 2004. He has 51 games to his credit and all of them have come in a Coyotes uniform. Borba is a Central Valley guy through and though, he currently teaches and coaches football in his home town of Chowchilla.

"He means a lot to the Central Valley and to the community of Chowchilla," said Biletnikoff Jr. "Wes is very loyal to this team and this community. He has had offers to play in the AFL and has chosen to stay local. It's that type of loyalty that makes Wes such a great teammate."

Borba has put up solid numbers on both sides of the ball through out his four seasons with the Coyotes. His career stats on defensive read: 136 tackles, four interceptions, ten forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. On offense Borba has been just a productive, 178 receptions for 1837 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Although Borba's production has been steady, his league accolades both came in 2007. He earned the U.S. Army Ironman of the Week in week 2 of the 2007 season and he snared the ADT Defensive Player of the Week in week 18.

The 2008 season looks to be one of Borba's best, as the af2 now allows the Jack Linebacker position to move laterally from sideline to sideline rather than staying in the box.

"Wes is a great player and an even better leader," said Biletnikoff Jr. "For all of the things he does for us on the field, he does ten times more for us off the field. He coaches his teammates so well. From training camp, to practice to in-game adjustment, Wes Borba just makes the Coyotes a better football team."
