Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio- The arenafootball2 League Offices have announced that FB/LB Tim Murphy has re-signed with the Mahoning Valley Thunder for the 2008 season, Murphy's second in af2.
Murphy (6'0, 240, Pitt) appeared in 14 games with the Thunder in 2007. A two-way player, Murphy recorded 8 tackles as member of the Thunder line-backing unit. Playing predominantly as a fullback, Murphy carried 67 times for a team high 343 yards and 14 touchdowns. A capable receiver, Murphy also registered 12 receptions for 125 yards and two scores. His 16 total touchdowns ranked third on the team. Murphy's offensive production earned him a spot on the All-af2 First Team.
His most memorable performance came on June 16th when Mahoning Valley hosted Quad City. Murphy was instant offense for the Thunder carrying 13 times for 55 yards and a team high four scores en route to a 63-34 Thunder win.
"Tim is very dangerous with the ball in his hands, not too many people want to get in the way of a 240 pound fullback." Said Thunder Head Coach Mike Hold "Offensively there's not too many things he can't do, he runs well, has soft hands and is an above average blocker, we're excited to have him back for the 2008 season."
The Mahoning Valley Thunder opens the season at home Saturday March 29th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre. Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Season ticket prices start as low as $96 and are on sale now.
