Central Valley Coyotes News Release
On January 26th Coyotes Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. and Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Derrick Chachere boarded the 5:00 AM flight headed to Phoenix Arizona. Their goal: To recruit players at a combine facilitated by the president of AZ Pro Combine, and the AFL's 2007 Offensive Player of the Year, Arizona Rattlers WR Siaha Burley.
"It's great to see players putting together workouts like this to help other players," said Biletnikoff. "Not only is Siaha helping them get exposure, but he is also teaching them the ins and outs of arena football. New York Dragons QB Aaron Garcia has done this in his hometown in Northern California for the last few years and I think it's great for our game. The participants should be grateful that these guys are truly trying to help them out."
The tryout had the support of many current AFL players and coaches. Utah Blaze QB Joe Germaine, San Jose Sabercats DS Omar Smith, Arena Bowl Champion DL Kevin Ingram, and Arizona Rattlers FB/LB Coach Tony Bowick were all on hand to assist players in learning the indoor game. Boise Burn Head Coach, Lee Leslie and Arizona Rattlers Assistant Coach Skip Foster were also in attendance.
As it turned out Burley's combine proved to be very productive for the Coyotes. In an effort to shore up the defensive secondary, the Coyotes coaching duo netted two defensive backs from Burley's combine. David Igono from West Virginia University and Corey Brown out of the University of New Mexico became the latest additions to Central Valley's roster.
The 6'0 215 pound Igono is from Phoenix and comes from a football focused family. He has two brothers, Josiah and Cyrus, who played Div. I college football. Igono was a standout at Scottsdale Community College (AZ) before transferring to West Virginia and should add depth to the Coyotes defensive backfield.
Brown was a two time letter winner at the University of New Mexico. He was a vital part of a Lobos defensive unit that led New Mexico to back to back bowl appearances, and should be a nice addition to the 2008 Central Valley Coyotes.
"Both David and Corey are quality players that will fit in very well with us," Biletnikoff said.
The 2008 Central Valley Coyotes season is less than two months away and season tickets are still available. For ticket information or any other questions, please contact the Coyotes front office at (559) 263-9780 or at www.cvcoyotes.com.
