Coyotes, Blitz Renew "Battle for Highway 99" This Saturday

(Fresno, Calif.) - The Central Valley Coyotes (1-2) and the Bakersfield Blitz (3-0) will renew one of the biggest af2 rivalries "The Battle for Highway 99" this Saturday night at Selland Arena. The Coyotes will be looking for pay back, the Blitz were the team to knock them out of the playoffs last season.

The Coyotes, who are coming off two very disappointing losses after a huge opening day win, will be looking to reach .500 while the Blitz will look to extend their division lead.

The Coyotes have been close in each of their 2 loses but have come up short and will be looking for a strong performance by the starting quarterback, and Lemoore native, Clay Groefsema (University of Redlands) as he leads the Coyotes 10th ranked offense as they try to pick apart a tough Blitz defense.

Groefsema has thrown 16 touchdowns and is averaging 252.3 passing yards in three games; his top receivers Wes Borba (WR/LB, St. Mary's College CA.) and Jason Barnes (WR, Sacramento State) have accounted for 9 of the 16 touchdowns and are averaging a combined 129.7 yards a game. Borba, who in Week #1 was name "U.S. Army Ironman of the Week," has also contributed on defense and special teams.

The Blitz have won their first 3 games by a combined total of 12 points will need to put up some points against a Coyotes defense that is ranked 11th. The Blitz will be looking for some standout performances by their receiving corps lead by Eric Mananke (WR/LB, Fresno State) and Rennard Reyonlds (WR, Alcorn State), and a mistake free game by their duo of Quarterbacks Chad Elliot (Syracuse) and New Comer and Former AFL starting Quarterback Dennis Gile.

The Coyotes will be hosting their first ever "Raider Nation" night as Cliff Branch and members of the Raiderettes will be on hand to sign autographs prior to the game. NFL Hall a Famer Fred Biletnikoff will be on hand to do the coin toss. Branch and Raiderettes will begin signing autographs at 6:00 P.M. when the doors open. Kick Off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
