Central Valley Coyotes News Release

The Central Valley Coyotes (9-6) used special teams and defensive turnovers to beat the Boise Burn (8-7) for the second time this season 55-50. The Coyotes special teams were led by JLS Ironman of the Game Jomo Wilson's two kickoff returns for touchdowns and a late Burn fumble created by Ira Watley III.

Out of the gate, the Coyotes defense held the Burn forcing them to turn the ball over on downs. The Coyotes offense took over at their own 22 yard line and needed 3 plays to score on when QB Clay Groefsema (22-34 223 yds. 5 TD 1 INT) connected with Schutt Offensive Player of the Game Jason Barnes (12-131 1 TD) for the only score of the first quarter.

The Burn's first score was with 8:17 left in the half when WR Brian Hernandez caught his first of three touchdown pass from QB Royal Gill (20-39 241 yds 4 TD 1 Int). The Burn then scored on their next two possessions after recovering two Coyote turnovers, one a Groefsema fumble and the second on a Groefsema interception. Boise went to the locker room at half time with a 26-21 lead.

The third quarter saw the Coyotes go down by as many as 5 points but put up 20 points in the quarter. The Coyotes defense held fast in the fourth quarter only giving up 12 points including forcing the Burn to turn the ball over on downs with one minute left in the game. The Coyote than ran the clock out.

The Coyotes helped their chances for their third straight playoff appearance but did not clinch a spot just yet. They will have to wait until their regular season finale next Saturday July 26th, when they finish the season at home against the Tri-Cities Fever (4-11). This game will also be held at the Save Mart Center with a kick off of 7 PM.
