Central Valley Coyotes News Release
FRESNO â The Central Valley Coyotes of the arenafootball2 league have hired three new coaches to complete their staffing needs for the 2005 season, head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. announced at a Coyote press conference today.
The team named Steven G. Folmar Defensive Coordinator, Daren Miller Assistant Head Coach/Line Coach and former af2 player, Delvin Myles, Secondary Coach.
"We are excited to have our coaching staff at full strength," said Biletnikoff Jr. "We can now focus on putting together a winning team."
Folmar, who was on the coaching staff of the Bakersfield Blitz the past three seasons, will be in his fifth year on the arena football sidelines.
With the Blitz, Folmar handled player personnel while coaching linebackers, fullbacks and special teams. Prior to that, he coached defensive backs with Iowa Wesleyan College in the National Athletic Interscholastic Association. Folmar also spent one season as the FB/LB coach as well as handling football operations with the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League in 2000.
Folmar attended Lock Haven University (Penn.) while earning a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. While at Lock Haven, he was a student assistant linebacker coach. The Meadville, Penn. native is also a substitute teacher in his free time.
Miller, who served as the Coyotes offensive/defensive lineman coach last year, will be returning for his second season with the Coyotes. He started his af2 coaching career with the Fresno Frenzy in 2002 where he also coached the offensive and defensive lines.
The new assistant head coach brings nine years of coaching experience with him including coaching positions with three local high schools, Roosevelt (1985, 1987-89), Edison (1990), and Washington Union (1991-92).
A native of Fresno, Miller played tight end at Roosevelt High (1981-83). He still resides locally with his two sons Aaron and Kylon.
Myles, who retired as a player this past season, will be taking on his first ever coaching position. In three season's with the Bakersfield Blitz (2002-04), the defensive specialist played in 39 games, accumulated 156 tackles, 23 pass deflections, six forced fumbles and three of his four interceptions were returned for scores.
After playing at Oklahoma State University, he moved on to the Canadian Football League from 1995-96. From 1997-2001, he played in the AFL with the Anaheim Piranhas (1997), Portland Forest Dragons (1999), Los Angeles Avengers (2000-01) and Oklahoma Wranglers (2001). In 1999 with the Avengers, while playing in just 10 games, Myles led the AFL in interceptions with six. That year he was a finalist for AFL Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-AFL.
At College of the Desert in 1992, Myles returned three kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns. He took a year away from football in 1998 and worked for the Dallas Recreation Department while helping family members through crisis situation.
A native of Anchorage, Alask., Myles resides there during the offseason.
The Coyotes will kick off their 2005 af2 season with an exhibition game at Selland Arena on March 27. The regular season starts on the road in Bakersfield on April 2.
