Central Valley Coyotes News Release
FRESNO â The Central Valley Coyotes of the arenafootball2 league have been assigned quarterback Orlando Evans, head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. announced today.
"I was familiar with Orlando's abilities when he played at San Francisco City College," said Biletnikoff Jr., who is also the offensive coordinator at Fresno City College in the offseason. "He is a very mobile and athletic quarterback who can make plays."
Evans (6-1, 205 pounds) was a backup quarterback at the University of Maryland from 2002-03. In his two years with the Terrapins, Evans completed to 14-of-22 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown. He began his collegiate career in 1999 at the University of Oregon competing for the back up spot behind Joey Harrington, but later transferred to Solano Community College (Suisun City, Calif.) in the fall of 2000 after a redshirt year.
In 2001, Evans transferred to City College of San Francisco where he played one season. During the team's historical year, Evans completed 165-of-251 passes for 2,391 yards and 28 touchdowns while leading the Rams to a 12-0 record which included a 61-12 victory of Palomar College in the California Community College championship game. It was their 36th consecutive win and third-straight title.
Evans attended Brookside Christian High School (Stockton, Calif.) where he completed 161-of-230 passes for 2,782 yards and 37 touchdowns in addition to 500 rushing yards and 13 rushing scores. Those numbers helped him earn Superior California Athletic League MVP and All-San Joaquin County honors. The multi-sport athlete also captured honorable mention All-American honors in basketball after helping lead his team to a Division V state title and the state finals as a point guard.
Born on December 26, 1980 in Seattle Wash., Evans still resides in Stockton, Calif.
"He was referred to us by an AFL team and showed tremendous promise while working with them in the offseason," said Biletnikoff Jr. "He has a chance to be a future AFL quarterback, he just needs to get some indoor experience."
The Coyotes will kick off their 2005 af2 season with an exhibition game at Selland Arena on March 27. The regular season starts on the road in Bakersfield on April 2. Fifty dollar deposits for 2005 Coyote season tickets, which include all nine games played at Selland Arena, are now being accepted at 559-263-9780.
