Cox to New Orleans; Tomshaw and Williamson Return to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Mobile BayBears at Bragan Field at 7:05 p.m.

Infielder Zack Cox has been transferred from the Suns to Triple-A New Orleans. Cox was hitting .321 with four homers and 27 RBI in 103 games played for the Suns in 2015. His batting average is currently third best in the Southern League, and he ends his time with the Suns on a seven game hitting streak, where he hit .455 (15-for-33) with his last four games all being multi-hit contests.

Additionally, left-handed pitchers Matt Tomshaw and Fabian Williamson have been transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville.

Tomshaw made a pair of starts for the Zephyrs going 0-2 with a 17.18 ERA, allowing 14 earned runs during his seven and a third innings pitched. Earlier this season for the Suns, Tomshaw pitched in 25 games and made 14 starts, going 5-9 with a 4.11 ERA. Tomshaw pitched collegiately at Jacksonville University, and was acquired by the Marlins in the 2014 Rule 5 Draft (Triple-A Phase) from the Minnesota Twins.

Williamson this year with the Zephyrs is 2-1 with a 5.64 ERA in 18 relief appearances. With the Suns the southpaw went 1-0 with a 3.10 ERA in 17 relief appearances and seven games finished.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and BayBears will square off once again Wednesday night with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET from Bragan Field. The Suns will send out right-hander Austin Brice (5-8, 5.20 ERA) while the BayBears will counter with righty Edgar Garcia (4-0, 4.28 ERA).
