Cowlitz Black Bears Launch Internship Program For Aspiring Students

PRESS RELEASE: Longview-Kelso, Wednesday, January 19, 2011: Beginning with the 2011 season of West Coast League baseball, the Cowlitz Black Bears will launch an initiative to expose aspiring sports professionals to the day-to-day front office operations that allow a professional run sports organization to succeed.

The internship, which will last from late May through mid August, will expose participants to many facets' of the behind the scenes operations, which will include but are not limited to: marketing, media relations, ticket sales, retail, corporate sponsorships, stadium operations, and customer service. As well as working in all these areas, Black Bears interns will be highly involved in game day stadium operations. These tasks will include stadium set-up and breakdown, on-field promotions staff, usher services, guest services, ticket operations and more.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for aspiring sports executives to break into the world of professionally run sports," said Black Bears' general manager, Grant Wilson. "Our interns will really get a sense for the type and amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make the organization run smoothly."

The Black Bears are members of the West Coast League, a nine-team, professional style wood-bat summer college league. The WCL features pro prospects from major conferences across the country.
