Court Collects PCL Player of the Week Honors
July 23, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Cubs utility infielder Ryan Court was tabbed the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for the period of July 16-22, the league announced today.
Court, 30, hit for a .615 average (16-for-26) during the week, adding two home runs and six RBI. The exclamation point came on July 20 when Court hit for the cycle, Iowa's first since Robin Jennings on Aug. 15, 1997 and the second in history. Court is the first I-Cub to garner Player of the Week recognition since Daniel Vogelbach captured the award on May 15, 2016.
Court's hot streak precedes last week as he is batting .372 (51-for-137) since May 21 and a PCL-leading .575 (23-for-40) in 12 games since the All-Star Break. Court has raised his season clip to .282 (74-for-262) following a slow start to the season and paces the Iowa roster with 43 RBI, is tied for the team lead with 14 doubles and ranks second with eight home runs.
Originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 23rd round of the 2011 draft, the Elgin, Ill. native signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Dec. 19, 2017.
Iowa travels to Fresno for a three-game series beginning Tuesday, July 24 with a 9:05 p.m. CT first pitch. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
