Courage To Play Exhibition vs. Washington in Wilmington

Morrisville, NC (January 28, 2003) - The Carolina Courage will begin preparations for its defense of the WUSA Founders Cup by playing a pre-season exhibition game March 8 against Mia Hamm's Washington Freedom in Wilmington, NC. The contest will be a rematch of the 2002 Founders Cup, which the Courage won 3-2, and a preview of this year's WUSA season opener April 5th at SAS Stadium in Cary, NC.

The compelling match-up pits the two most explosive offenses from last season. Both Carolina and Washington scored 40 goals in the 2002 regular season.

Hosted by the Wilmington Hammerheads, the USL Pro Select League's national champion runners-up in 2002, the WUSA exhibition game will kick off at 7:30 pm at the Legion Sports Complex. Tickets prices for the exhibition are $14 for adults and $10 for children. The Freedom will be bringing FIFA Player of the Year Mia Hamm, WUSA Rookie of the Year Abby Wambach, and the WUSA's all-time single game saves leader Siri Mullinix. The Courage will be led by its captain, U.S. National Team midfielder Tiffany Roberts, WUSA defender of the year Danielle Slaton, WUSA All-Star Danielle Fotopoulos, WUSA goalkeeper of the year Kristin Luckenbill, and All-South defender Nel Fettig.
