Country Ford adds fun and neat prize to Xplorers halftime

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- There will be a new twist to a popular Memphis Xplorers halftime activity beginning with this Saturday night's home opener at the DeSoto Civic Center. Country Ford in Southaven is sponsoring the Fling-A-Football contest during halftime of all Xplorers home games this season and will be providing a very unique prize. The defending ArenaCup champs host the Florida Firecats at 7 p.m.
Fling-A-Football is a contest in which fans purchase small rubber numbered footballs prior to halftime. Then at a designated time during the halftime intermission, the fans throw those footballs at target on the field with the ball on, or closest to, the target being the winner. The number on the football is matched up with a registration sheet and the winner is announced over the P.A.
This season's prize, courtesy of Country Ford, will be an Xplorers green replica 1939 Ford Model-T pedal car. The car can be pedaled and steered and will feature the Xplorers and Country Ford insignias. The car is 33 inches long by 18 inches wide.
Fling-A-Footballs sell for $2 apiece or 7 for $10 with all of the proceeds going to the featured non-profit for that night's game. The week's featured non-profit is the Mississippi Nurses Association.
Along with the halftime fun, this Saturday's home opener will feature a pre-game ceremony where the 2005 championship banner will be raised and the first 1,500 fans receive an Xplorers 2006 schedule magnet.

The Xplorers will defend their Arena Cup Championship in 2006 and you can be in on the action. The season begins on April 1 at Tennessee Valley with the home opener on April 8 versus the Florida Firecats.
