GAME NOTES: The California Cougars (7-11), and the Major Indoor Soccer League, bring the city of Stockton and its state-of-the-art Arena to the nation's eye on Friday night as the Cougars host the Chicago Storm (13-7) on Fox Soccer Channel. The Cougars are currently on the outside looking in as they are ranked eighth in league standings. The top six MISL teams make the Championship Series at year's end. The Cougars are 1 game back of the sixth seeded Philadelphia KiXX and a half game behind seventh seeded La Raza de Monterrey. California has played fewer games (18) than any other team in the MISL this season. Their season's second half officially started on January 27th against Orlando. However, most would agree that the Cougars latest two week break is truly the midpoint. The Cougars hosted and defeated (27-10) the Premiere Arena Soccer League All-Stars in an exhibition match on Sunday February 10, 2008. Friday's game is crucial for California. They have the tough task of attempting to end their seven game losing streak against a Chicago team that has defeated them twice already this season. The Storm took the first match, 11-10 on October 27th, after a game winning three point goal in the fourth quarter by Randy Soderman. The fall match was first of the season for both the Cougars and Storm. California went on to win six of their next nine games after their season opening loss to the Storm. However, the Cougars are just 1-8 since starting the year 6-3 through their first nine games. The Cougars have been decimated by injuries this season. They expect to see midfielder Nelson Santana, defender/Assistant Coach Antonio Sutton, forwards Naldo and Chris Handsor back in the lineup against Chicago. Friday's game is also Antonio Sutton Bobblehead night.
