Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths lost a pair of games in Knoxville, Tenn. over the past weekend; however, the Snakes did pick up a point in the standings for having a tie in regulation in Saturday night's game. The Cottonmouths are now in third place in the SPHL, four points behind first-place Knoxville and two behind second-place Fayetteville. This weekend features another back-to-back opponent, this time at home against the Richmond Renegades. Both games will be broadcast via Penn Atlantic with both a video and audio feed. There is a nominal fee associated with each game; details can be found at www.thesphl.tv. In addition, the games will be aired live on WEAM 1580 AM "The Zone" in the Columbus area, with Mike Vee providing the play-by-play action, with a free simulcast of the radio broadcast on the Internet via Live365. The Snakes look to break their six-game winless streak this weekend with a pair of home games against the Richmond Renegades. The Renegades feature former Cottonmouth goaltender Ryan Senft between the pipes.
Friday, November 30 - Columbus 2 at Knoxville 5 (Attendance: 3,997)
Andrew Dwyer and Orrin Hergott lit the lamp for the Snakes but it wasn't enough as Columbus fell 5-2 to the Ice Bears on Friday night. Nathan Heinen faced 22 shots in the game, stopping 18 of them, while Ervins Mustukovs turned away 38 of the 40 Columbus shots on goal he faced. Both teams were 1 for 4 on the power play.
Saturday, December 1 - Columbus 3 at Knoxville 4 (OT) (Attendance: 2,617)
The Snakes forced overtime on Saturday night with regulation goals scored by Lorne Misita, Mark Prentice, and Jason Price; however, Kevin Swider's overtime goal gave Knoxville the extra standing point in a 4-3 win for the Ice Bears. Ian Vigier picked up the regulation tie with 30 saves on 34 shots faced. Ervins Mustukovs picked up the win for Knoxville and improved to 3-0-0 against Columbus this season, stopping 31 of 34.
THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
1. F Mark Prentice - Prentice picked up a big goal on Saturday night to force overtime and added an assist as well in the game.
2. F Ryan Rutz - Rutz picked up two assists in Saturday night's contest.
3. F Craig Stahl - Stahl was the only Cottonmouth on the scoresheet both nights, picking up an assist in each contest Friday and Saturday.
