Cottonmouths to Welcome UFC Star in November

The Columbus Cottonmouths are pleased to announce that Ultimate Fighting Championships star Forrest Griffin will be making an appearance for 'Fight Night' at the Snake Pit, thanks to our sponsors Premier Martial Arts, Play N Trade/GameLink, Flip Flops and Chester's Barbeque. Fight Night is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, when the Snakes take on the Huntsville Havoc at 7:30 p.m.

A former light heavyweight champion, Griffin is scheduled to face Anderson Silva as one of two headlining fights this Saturday, August 8 at UFC 101 Declaration in Philadelphia, available on pay-per-view only. Last month's UFC 100 brought in 1.5 million buys, making it the largest non-boxing pay-per-view television audience in history. UFC has taken off as America's fastest growing sport, and the Cottonmouths are honored to bring one of the sport's best to Columbus.

Griffin appeared on The Ultimate Fighter in 2005, defeating Stephan Bonnar in a unanimous decision in his first claim to fame. According to Griffin's official website, UFC owner Dana White called this victory, 'the most important fight in UFC history' as interest in the sport skyrocketed. In July 2008, Griffin defeated Quinton "Rampage" Jackson for the Light Heavyweight Championship Belt. The University of Georgia graduate has also recently published a book, 'Got Fight', which is currently #5 on the NY Times Best Sellers List.

Griffin will participate in pre-game and intermission on-ice activities, and a special meet and greet will also be held. Meet and greet tickets are $80 (game ticket included), and $60 for season ticket holders (no game ticket included.) Meet and Greet tickets will go on sale Monday, August 10 at 9 a.m. Very limited space is available for this event, and it will likely sell out quickly. Tickets are required for anyone over the age of three, and may be reserved over the phone with a credit card at 706 571 0086, or in person in the Cottonmouths office.

The Snakes will be wearing commemorative 'Snake in the Cage' Fight Night jerseys for the event. All jerseys will be signed by Griffin and auctioned following the game.
