Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

Columbus, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths will recognize long-time, fan favorite Frankie 'The Wall' Ouellette by retiring his No. 30 jersey on Jan. 5.

Ouellette was the Snakes' number-one goaltender from 1997-2001, and is most remembered for leading the Cottonmouths to their first league championship in 1997-98 with a stellar 26-5-2 regular-season record.

"Frankie left his mark on the city of Columbus," General Manager and head coach Jerome Bechard said. "His actions both on and off the ice made him extremely popular with our fans and our community. Retiring his jersey is a way of showing our gratitude for all he's done for our organization."

The retirement ceremony will be held prior to the game to recognize Ouellette for his contributions as a Cottonmouth. An Elvis-theme will be in effect in honor of Ouellette's love for the King of Rock n' Roll. Anyone interested in participating in an Elvis impersonator contest should contact Jason Bray at jbray@cottonmouths.com or (706) 571 0086.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates on Jan. 5 will receive a replica Frankie 'The Wall' Ouellette jersey, courtesy of the Columbus Civic Center. No one is guaranteed giveaway items this season so all fans should arrive early. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.

Ouellette will also be on hand to sign autographs Jan. 4 when the Snakes take on the Richmond Renegades.

The Cottonmouths are on the road this weekend, taking on the Richmond Renegades Friday, Dec. 29 and heading to Knoxville Dec. 30. The Snakes next home game is Thursday, Jan. 4.
