Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Cottonmouths fans will recognize two out of the three names above. Will Aide has made a great name for himself as a real bruiser. The North Dakota native made his way to Columbus back in 2012 when he was finishing up his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. Born in 1990, Aide began his amateur hockey career in 2006 when he played in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for four years before moving up to the Tier I junior level of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2010. Aide has played in a total of 104 games for the Snakes since his debut back in 2012. Will has not been known as a point scorer, but for historical purposes, we might have a "Boom Boom" Jr. on our hands. Aide has accumulated a total 378 penalty minutes in only three years for the Snakes. His tenacity on the ice is inspiring. He is never afraid of a fight and is always swinging until the refs break it up. He truly offers high energy and an entertaining presence on the ice.
MacPherson joined the Cottonmouths last season and appeared in a total of 43 games. The Brampton, Ontario native's first professional career began in the Federal Hockey League (FHL) before being called up to Columbus. The 6'3'' defenseman is a wall on the ice and helps generate opportunities by having fantastic vision in looking up ice towards his streaking teammates. MacPherson's knowledge of the game is apparent and he is growing right before the eye's of the Cottonmouths faithful.
The third signee of this group, Rusty Hafner, hails from Toledo, Ohio and is looking to make a name for himself at the professional level. The 2015 season will be a true test for Hafner as he has never experienced professional hockey. However, Hafner's amateur career is extensive, with stops at the Junior A levels beginning in 2005 before appearing in a total of 76 games for Bowling Green State University at the NCAA Division I level in 2011.
When asked about the recent signees, Jerome Bechard stated: "These guys are going to add a real aspect to our team that can win a lot of games. We are excited to have (Will) Aide and (Tyler) MacPherson back because we know what they can bring to the ice. Rusty (Hafner) is going to add some more, needed, beef to our back end and we are excited to see what he is going to be able to bring to the ice come the first game."
