Cottonmouths Sign Top Two Scorers

The Columbus Cottonmouths have signed their top two scorers from last season, forwards and linemates Tim Green and Ryan Rutz. The upcoming season will mark both Green and Rutz's fourth consecutive season as a Snake.

Green and Rutz, alongside center Tylor Keller, have played together on what has proven to be the Snakes' top scoring line, and one of the most productive in the league the past two seasons. Last season, Green and Rutz finished ninth and tenth, respectively, in the league in points scored (Green 69, Rutz 68).

Green came to the Snakes in 2004, making an immediate impact with 60 points in his first season. During the 2005-06 season, Green registered a league-leading 41 goals and led the Snakes with 90 points, ranking him third in the league in points scored. Though battling an ankle injury for the latter part of last season, Green picked up 69 points, leading the Snakes to a first-place regular season finish.

Rutz also joined the Snakes in 2004, contributing 25 points en route to the Snakes first SPHL championship. The next season, Rutz joined Green and Keller on the Snakes' top scoring line. He finished the 2005-06 season second in the league in goals scored with 37, an achievement Rutz would exactly equal the following season. Until the final game of the 2006-07 regular season when he was sidelined with a shoulder injury, Rutz had not missed a game in his three-year career as a Cottonmouth.

"These two guys have been a huge part of our success the past three years," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "They are continuously among the top scorers in the league. Coming into their fourth year, I expect them to be leaders on and off the ice and I'm just happy to have them back."

Green and Rutz have combined for 390 points in 340 games total throughout their three seasons with the Cottonmouths.
