Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists pulled off a big come-from-behind win on Wednesday night against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Asheville won by a final score of 11-9 and had to overcome deficits twice to do so.
Colin Barber gave the home team a 1-0 lead with a first inning RBI double. Bowling Green responded with a run in the second and three more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Luis Santana and Deury Carrasco hit back-to-back doubles while Barber added another RBI hit to bring the Tourists within a run.
C.J. Stubbs launched a 423-foot two run Home Run in the bottom of the fifth that pushed Asheville on top 5-4. In the top of the sixth, the Hot Rods hit a three-run Homer to recapture the lead 7-5.
The Tourists then went to work with two outs in the seventh. Stubbs hit a double and Santana walked. Carrasco plated both runners with a drive off the scoreboard in right. A few batters later, Marty Costes stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and clubbed a Grand Slam down the right field line. Asheville led 11-7 after the frame.
Bowling Green managed to push a run across in the eighth and hit a solo Home Run in the ninth to pull within two. Cesar Gomez responded with a strikeout of Tanner Murray to end the ballgame.
Gomez and Rhett Kouba combined to pitch the full nine innings and the duo issued only one walk. It is the second straight outing where Kouba and Gomez covered the entire game, both Asheville victories.
