
Correll Slugs JackHammers Past RedHawks 11-6

FARGO, ND - Brad Correll collected four hits and three runs batted in to guide the JackHammers to their first victory in 2010, an 11-6 victory Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
The JackHammers (1-1) scored six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to push the game out of reach. Correll hit a bases loaded single to left to plate two in the eighth for a 7-5 Joliet lead. The Orange Crush added three more in the ninth, sending nine hitters to the plate. Jorge Rodriguez knocked in his first run of the season with a bases loaded single off Donnie Smith. Joliet added two more on a couple of Fargo errors for their 11 runs.
The RedHawks (1-1) held three separate leads but couldn't hold on for the victory. Fargo led 3-0 after two, 4-3 after four and 5-4 after six innings behind starter Darren Byrd. Jesse Hoorelbeke doubled home the first run against Devin Anderson and Carlo Cota and Mike Coles drove in a couple runs in the second for a 3-0 lead.
Anderson would work the first four for Joliet, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts. The bullpen went the rest of the way, combining for five innings and two runs on three hits.
Correll's one out solo home run in the seventh tied the game at five and the three eighth inning runs made a winner out of William Jackel (1-0), who tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless ball.
Ryan Basham added three hits, including a two run double in the fourth to tie the game at three. Basham finished the night with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
J.J. Pacella (0-1) took the loss for Fargo, surrendering two runs in 1.1 innings.
Freddie Thon finished with a multi hit game, driving in a run on two singles.
The JackHammers look to capture the series tomorrow afternoon in Fargo. Ross Stout and Scott Fogelson is the starting pitching matchup. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on the JackHammers Radio Network.
