Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of midfielder Corben Bone to the 2015 USL PRO regular season roster.

"I am extremely excited to be joining the Wilmington Hammerheads for the 2015 season," said Bone. "The short time I was with the team during the 2014 season, displayed the quality of not only the team, but the town of Wilmington."

Bone returns to the Hammerheads after being on loan from Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union towards the end of last season as the team competed to claim a spot in the playoffs. During his short stint with the Hammerheads last season, the midfielder tallied two goals in nine matches.

"After Corben's loan stint with us last year, it became a major priority to get him signed on with us this season," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "His soccer is of the highest quality and speaks for itself, but he also brings great energy and spirit into our locker room."

Bone recently arrived in New York City to partake in preseason training with the team's newly appointed MLS affiliate, New York City FC.

"The timing of our partnership with NYCFC was perfect and we are really happy to start this partnership with Corben joining their preseason," said Porter. "Corben is a guy that Jason Kreiss has liked for some time and it was a chance for them to get a look at him, as well as a chance for Corben to sharpen his game before he joins us in March."

He and the rest of the NYCFC contingency will travel from New York to Jacksonville, Florida, and set up shop for the next eight days as the team prepares for their inaugural MLS match versus Orlando City SC. The group that is traveling includes World Cup winner and former Athletico Madrid and Barcelona star David Villa, who recently joined NYCFC.

"The opportunity to train with NYCFC this preseason is one that I am very grateful for," said Bone. "They are one of the most anticipated clubs in MLS history, and to be a part of that, however small, is a great honor. It gives me a unique chance to prepare for the upcoming season with the Hammerheads by playing with some of the top players in MLS. The partnership between NYCFC and the Hammerheads is a very exciting one for both clubs, and I'm sure the players, staff, and fans from both sides are anxious to help each other become better organizations."

Prior to coming to Wilmington, Bone spent the last four seasons in MLS; three with the Chicago Fire and his most recent with Philadelphia Union.

"At this club the players come first, period," said Porter. "I don't think Corben has played his last game in MLS, and as he helps us chase our goals, we will help him chase his. We are delighted to have him back."
