Copperheads ready to strike Gators, but game cancelled

Saturday, May 27, 2006, the Katy Copperheads game versus the Twin City Gators at Monroe Civic Center in Monroe, Louisiana has been cancelled. Katy will be awarded a forfeit and this will raise their overall record to 8-3. The Copperheads are currently riding a 4-game winning streak and hold first place in the Pacific Conference's South Division after their 48-34 second half blowout of the Beaumont Drillers on the road last week.
The Copperheads racked up a total of 10 first downs and 94 yards rushing behind the strong running of Bam Morris against the Drillers this past weekend. Katy outscored Beaumont 17-0 in the third period to put the game on ice. With the win Katy claims the rights to the NIFL Texas Championship.
The Gators have had problems recently with the resignation of their Head Coach. The Copperheads claimed a 45-30 win at Monroe on March 25 in their only meeting of the season. The Copperheads will resume play June 9th at home in the Merrell Center against same Monroe Twin Cities Gators team. The Gators will complete the remainder of their road schedule.
Katy Head Coach Bryan Blake said, "We must stay focused over the next two bye weeks and prepare for our next home game. You have to be ready to play every week, any team can pull an upset, we actually lost at Beaumont in week four."

The Katy Copperheads will play a 14 game schedule in 2006 consisting of eight home and six away games. The remaining home games will be played in the Leonard E. Merrell Center on the following dates:
- Friday, June 9th, 2006 (Monroe)
- Sunday, June 18th, 2006 (West Palm Beach relocated to the Merrell Center)
- Saturday, June 24th, 2006 (West Palm Beach)
