Copperheads hit long road ahead
April 12, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Texas Copperheads News Release
Copperheads Travel to South Dakota
(KATY, TX. - April 11, 2006,) The Copperheads must get over their 49-21 blowout win over the winless Arkansas Stars and focus on their longest road trip as they face one of the toughest teams in the NIFL. The 1,490 mile journey starts in Texas and ends hopefully in a win over the Flying Aces.
The Rapid City Flying Aces sport an undefeated 4-0 record and are currently averaging over 80 points per game this season. They have two wins over the Lincoln/St. Joseph Capitols, Wyoming Calvary and Big Sky Thunder. The Flying Aces are led by Quarterback Albert Higgs and the rushing of Verna Owens.
Katy was led last week by the rushing one-two punch of Kerry Henderson and Bam Morris. Also the receiving corps of John Whitehead and Jason Deml should keep the fly boys from South Dakota in trouble.
The 3-2 Copperheads are 1-1 in away games this season and are currently second in their division behind the Beaumont Drillers.
"We're ready to play whomever and wherever we are scheduled. We've got to be firing on all cylinders to come away with a victory this week," Copperheads Head Coach Bryan Blake said. "We have to play a full four quarters this week, not just one half like we did last week against Arkansas."
The Copperheads return home next Saturday to face the Montgomery Maulers at 7:05 in the Merrill Center. Also with the success of the last tailgate party it will be continued in front of the arena for all home games at 3 p.m.
