Conway named Thunder's dance team coach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach Thunder owners Zack McDonald, Kevin McDonald and Jay Burton announce that renowned dance team director Kelly Conway will serve as Dance Team Coach for the American Indoor Football League expansion franchise.
For the past 21 years, Conway has directed the national champion Showdolls at New Smyrna Beach High School. The Showdolls won their tenth national dance championship in 2005, and have appeared in several Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades, Cotton Bowl parades as well as performing at the Daytona 500 pre-race events, Miami Dolphin halftimes and much, much more. "We are honored to make this announcement and are thrilled to have Kelly join us," said Thunder CEO Zack McDonald. "Kelly is driven to exceed all expectations and produce a first-class product. We share that vision with her, and are committed to providing her and her dancers the resources to become a squad that not only will be the best in indoor football, but one that rivals anything you see in the NFL or the NBA."
Conway also served as the dance team coordinator for the Daytona Beach National Indoor Football League team in 2005. Ten of those dancers, including captain Samantha Iorio, will form the nucleus for the still unnamed squad.
"We were a dance team that just starting to come into its own identity," Conway said. "I see no problem in picking up exactly where we left off and taking dance to a new level in this area."
Fans can still submit their suggestion to name the dance squad at the team's Web site, http://www.daytonabeachthunder.com. Five finalists will be selected for a vote beginning in mid-September.
