Goaltender Neil Conway earned his first shutout of the season in stopping 36 Lancer shots on goal in a 4-0 Gamblers' victory on Saturday, March 22nd at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The victory was Conway's seventh of the season (7-14-4) and second against the Lancers this year. Conway backstopped the Gamblers to a 3-1 victory at the Mid-America Center on November 23rd.
Meanwhile, Lancer goaltender Drew Palmisano took the loss with a 22-save effort, allowing three goals with the final score coming into an open net.
The teams played scoreless hockey through the first twenty minutes, but Green Bay took the lead on C.J. Lee's 13th goal of the season. His goal at the 13:53 mark of the second period gave the Gamblers a 1-0 lead.
In the third period, Green Bay stormed out of the gates with a pair of goals in the first 2:10 of the frame for a 3-0 advantage. Max Cook scored on the power play at 1:29, followed by Taylor McReynolds' unassisted goal at 2:10 that provided an insurmountable cushion for the home team.
The Lancers tried to close the gap in the final minutes of the game by pulling Palmisano for an extra attacker, but Gambler forward Michael Borisenok slid a shot from center ice into the open net at 17:13 of the third period for the final result.
Green Bay scored once on the power play in five attempts and scored a shorthanded goal as well, as Borisenok's goal came with a teammate in the penalty box. The Lancers were scoreless in six power play chances.
Despite the loss, Omaha crept two points closer to claiming the Anderson Cup, as East Division leader Indiana lost to Chicago. The Lancers are now within six points of winning the overall USHL regular season title.
Next up for the Lancers is a home-and-home series with Cedar Rapids in the upcoming weekend. The teams meet at the Mid-America Center on Friday, March 28th, followed by a return meeting in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, March 29th.
