 Round Rock Express

Conrad blast caps comeback

April 24, 2004 - Texas League (TL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

One swing is all it took to erase a homestand of frustration for Brooks Conrad.

Conrad came into Saturday's game with the Midland RockHounds 4 for 21 at The Dell Diamond, but left it a hero. His home run in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Round Rock Express to a 5-4 win over the RockHounds.

"I couldn't ask for a better time to hit it," Conrad said. "I finally got a pitch I could work with and got a hold of it. When I hit it, it was just deafening."

The win was eerily similar to a 5-4 win over El Paso earlier in this homestand, even down to the batter that tied the game in the late innings. Mike Rodriguez homered in the eighth to tie it versus El Paso and evened the game versus Midland with a bases clearing double to overcome a 4-1 deficit in the seventh.

It was also a night of redemption for Santiago Ramirez. The Express closer blew his first save of the year Friday, but was perfect in shutting down the RockHounds in the ninth for his fifth save.

Mike Burns – after going 2-13 in 2003 – improved to 2-0 in 2004 with two shutout innings. Bert Snow (2-1) took the loss after giving up Conrad's home run.

"That's the great thing about this team," manager Jackie Moore said. "It's someone new every game."

The series finale will be Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
