Albany has won five of their last eight games and are alive in the arenafootball2 playoff hunt. Albany, with a win this Friday on the road against the Green Bay Blizzard, will improve their record to 6-7, meaning they will be just one game behind the Memphis Xplorers (7-6) for the sixth and final playoff spot in the American Conference. Memphis has a bye this week.
The Albany Conquest and the Green Bay Blizzard met for the first time ever two weeks ago at Pepsi Arena, with Albany earning a convincing 59-26 win. Both teams received a bye 4th of July Weekend, and now they will meet again at The Resch Center in Green Bay.
In Albany's 59-26 win over Green Bay on June 25, six different Albany players found the endzone on the offensive side of the ball, and two more on the defensive side of the ball.
The Albany Conquest had their best defensive performance of the season in limiting the Green Bay Blizzard to just 26 points in the 59-26 win. Albany will hope for a repeat performance when they travel to Green Bay. Green Bay will likely start Chris Greisen or Matt Bunyan at quarterback. Greisen missed the game on June 25 due to injury and Bunyan got the start throwing three interceptions, including two that were returned for Albany touchdowns. The Conquest have a true ball hawk in their secondary in defensive specialist Travis Coleman, who is third in af2 in passes defended with 22 and is tied for a team-high with four interceptions.
Albany offensive specialist Tony Locke ranks in the top ten in four league categories. He is fourth in scoring touchdowns (31), fourth in scoring points (186), fifth in all-purpose yards (2,116) and ninth in receiving yards (1,118).
Albany's next home game is on July 23 when the Conquest will battle the Manchester Wolves at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. America's # 1 country music duo Montgomery Gentry will perform a full concert following the game.
