Conquest sign RPI grad QB Dan Cole

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Conquest of arenafootball2 today announced they have signed quarterback Dan Cole to a contract for the 2007 season.

Cole, 24, played at RPI from 2000-2003, setting nearly every school passing record, completing 671 of 1,202 passes for 8,902 yards and 87 touchdowns in 32 games. He averaged 277.1 yards per game while throwing just 26 interceptions. The Albany, N.Y., native also ran 333 times for 823 yards and 13 touchdowns.

As a senior, Cole threw for 3,679 yards, 40 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions in 13 games, leading the Engineers to a school-record 11 wins (11-2) and the NCAA National Semi-Finals. He was voted Offensive Player of the Year by the Liberty League and the ECAC. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder was a two-time UCAA Player of the Year and held three All-American honors. Cole was invited to a mini camp tryout with the New England Patriots in 2004, becoming the first Rensselaer football player invited to a mini camp by a National Football League team. He attended training camp with the Conquest last season.

"Having Dan back for a second season will be great for us," head coach Pete Costanza said. "He now has an understanding of the game and all the tools to be successful."

The Albany Conquest opens its sixth season Friday, April 6, 2007 against the Mahoning Valley Thunder at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
