Connecticut Crush News Release

NEWINGTON, CT – February 2, 2004 – The Connecticut Crush Women's Professional Football Team traveled to Houston, TX this past week to participate in the NFL Experience at Superbowl XXXVIII– an interactive theme park featuring games, displays and entertainment attractions for the whole family.

In an effort to raise public and media awareness of the sport of women's tackle football, the Crush, joined by National Women's Football Association (NWFA) players from across the country, were invited by the NFL to host a women's football exhibition. Players donned pads and helmets to showcase their talents in a 2-hour scrimmage amidst a frenzy of fan support. Afterwards, players signed autographs and posed for pictures.

Then next day, three members of the Crush, Team Owner Melanie DePamphilis, Captain Edna Colon-LaBrec and veteran Luz Oliver traveled to Katy, TX to tape a reality show entitled "Ten Things Every Guy Should Experience." In it, two teams of two guys each had a chance to return a kick for tickets to the Superbowl. One guy from each team attempted a kick return while the other blocked. But when the teams showed up, they had no idea their opponents would be women! The show will air Monday night, February 2nd at 11PM EST on Spike TV.

The Connecticut Crush opens its 2004 season on the road against the Maine Freeze on Saturday April 10th. The first Crush home game is scheduled for Saturday May 8th at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in New Britain, adjacent to the home of the New Britain Rock Cats. The NWFA, the largest league in the world for women's full contact NFL-type football, was formed in August 2000 with just two teams. Since then, the league has seen significant growth and currently consists of 37 teams across the country. For more NWFA league information, visit www.womensfootballcentral.com.
