Condors Struggle Against Aces Continues

December 15, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – Christian Soucy stopped 38 shots in regulation and held the Condors scoreless in the shootout, as the Anchorage Aces beat the Condors 4-3 in the shootout in front of 5,720 at Centennial Garden on Saturday.

Bakersfield took a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes as they outshot the Aces 9-1 early in the game. Christoffer Norgren blasted home his first of the season just :32 in, and Jason Ralph netted his 11th of the year just a couple minutes later. Paul Willett and Christian Skoryna assisted on both goals. Dean Larson's 14th of the year - a wrist shot that beat Kevin St. Pierre up high - put the Aces on the board.

Both teams notched one goal during the middle frame, as Paul Rosebush made it 3-1 with his fourth of the season. He slipped a backhander past Soucy for the second two-goal lead of the game. It wouldn't last however, as Yvan Corbin tallied on the power play at 8:33 of the same period to make it 3-2 after two periods.

A Condors power play midway through the third frame ended up turning the tide - in the Aces direction. A deflected pass at the left point led to a clean breakaway for Kimbi Daniels, who snapped home the shorthanded goal to tie the contest at 3-3. Regulation ended with the Condors outshooting the Aces 41-20.

Three of four shooters in the extra session beat St. Pierre, while Soucy blanked the Condors on three chances and the Aces took the 4-3 win. The Condors are now 0-2-3 against Anchorage. They failed to gain ground on first place Idaho, who smoked Long Beach 8-2 tonight. In other action, San Diego turned aside Fresno 7-4.

The Condors travel to San Diego on Sunday night for a 5:00pm start against the Gulls. They hit the road for three against Idaho next week, and return home on Sunday, December 22 for a 5:00pm start. Everyone at that game will receive a Condors Cheer Sign, sponsored by the Bakersfield Californian, 101.5 KGFM & HealthSouth. After the game, fans are invited to stick around to skate with the Condors on the Centennial Garden ice. Limited skate rental is available for $3.
