Condors Community Update - Baby Cal Attends Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser Wednesday

Condorstown Update:

Condors Care-A-Vans: Once again the Condors have teamed up with Goodwill Industries to visit surrounding communities of Bakersfield for Condors Care-A-Vans. The Care-A- Vans are dedicated to helping spread the word about the upcoming Condors 2007-08 Anniversary season and aiding Goodwill in the collection of donation items. Together, the Condors and Goodwill will visit at least five communities in Kern County. Last summer, they visited Shafter, Taft, Tehachapi, Delano and Lake Isabella, stopping at locations such as hospitals, schools, fire stations, rotary clubs and libraries. If you, your organization or community is interested in having the Condors and Goodwill visit you, please contact the Condors Community Relations department at 324- PUCK (7825). Go Condors!

Honorable Notes:

The Condors placed second among activities in Bakersfield for "Best Family Attraction" in Sunday's Bakersfield Life Magazine, located inside the Bakersfield Californian. The Kern County Fair was listed as the "Best Family Attraction" while CALM was also mentioned. The Condors would like to say thank you to all our loyal supporters and to those that voted for us.

Week In Review:

Monday, May 14th: Condors mascot Baby Cal and Community Relations Manager Jill Watts attended Voorhies Elementary's "Drug Free Week" Celebration. Baby Cal celebrated alongside students at their kick-off event to say "no" to drugs and alcohol. Special guest speakers like Mayor Harvey Hall and student body officers touched on how to live a drug free life.

Wednesday, May 16th: Condors mascot Baby Cal was present at KGET-TV 17 studios to help raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network. Nearly $55,000 in donations was collected in person and over the phone. With the proceeds, Memorial Hospital can now buy six new special cribs for the pediatric department.

Thursday, May 17th: Condors mascot Baby Cal joined the crowd at the Bakersfield Blaze's Field Trip Game to welcome students from around Kern County and participate in a mascot race with several mascots from around Bakersfield.

Thursday, May 17th: The Condors took part in the Downtown Business Association's Street Fair and provided the Condors bounce house for kids to enjoy. This year's event focused on emergency medical services. The next D.B.A. Street Fair will be held on June 21. For more information visit www.bakersfielddba.net.

Friday, May 18th: Condors mascot Colonel Claw'd attended Evergreen Elementary's end of the year carnival. Colonel Claw'd entertained students as he danced to music and played games.

Mark Your Calendars:

Thursday, May 31st: Condors mascot Baby Cal and Community Relations Manager Jill Watts will stop by Wayside Elementary at 1 p.m. to celebrate the last day of school with the Reach For Greatness Mentoring Program. Mentors from the program will be present to mingle with their students as Baby Cal goes from classroom to classroom spreading cheer to all before they start their summer of fun.

Saturday, June 2nd: KGET-TV 17 is holding its "Gateway to Fun" Kids Fest at Yokuts Park, located on the corners of Empire Dr. and Bahamas St. This two-day event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will provide kids the chance to participate in the "most talented kid" contest, as well as a variety of other fun activities like the Condors inflatable slapshot. For only $5, kids will get to play all day! Food and drinks will also be available. For more information on the event visit www.kget.com and click on the Kids Fest logo!

Sunday, June 3rd: "Gateway to Fun" Kids Fest will continue today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
