Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors scored twice in the third period to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but fell short in the shootout, suffering a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Sunday in front of 4,211 fans at Centennial Garden.

The Ice Dogs were opportunistic early, as they scored just over a minute into the contest. Jamie O'Leary came up with a loose puck at the side of the net and chipped it over Kevin St. Pierre for the 1-0 advantage. A few minutes later, Tyler Willis lifted a backhander over an outstretched St. Pierre for the second goal of the game. It was Jeff Attard's hard work coming out of the corner that gave the puck to Willis, who was all alone and made no mistake.

The score remained 2-0 through the second period, as the goaltenders combined to stop 20 shots during the middle frame. Bakersfield was given all seven of their penalties in the game during the second period, but kept Long Beach from extending the lead. Towards the end of the middle frame, the offense started to pick up, carrying them into the final period.

Shawn Byram put Bakersfield on the board less than five minutes into the third period. Jason Ralph and Jon Sorg assisted on the goal, which came on the power play. Jason Jackman scored his third goal in as many nights to tie the game at 12:56. Jimmy Drolet's blast from the neutral zone kicked out into the slot for Jackman, who fired home the tying goal.

In the shootout, three Ice Dogs were able to tickle the twine, while only Christian Skoryna tallied for Bakersfield, who finished the week picking up three of a possible eight points. They remain in second place, behind the Idaho Steelheads, and ahead of third place San Diego by three points, both of whom were idle tonight.

The Condors host Fresno on Thursday night at Centennial Garden for a 7:00pm start on Poster Giveaway Night, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and B-Rock 99. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors poster, and it's also the annual Boxing Day Celebration. Fans are encouraged to bring in old items boxed up for donation to Goodwill Industries.
