Command WR Bradly Chavez Wins League Honors

May 24, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Kansas City Command News Release

With 0.4 seconds left on the clock, it was the last play of a hard-fought game. Kansas City was down by 4 points, and for the team's final drive to the end zone, Tulsa's defense had been doing everything in its power to put the brakes on the COMMAND's hopes for a win.

But adversity is when the magic happens, and Bradly Chavez's leaping catch magically silenced the boisterous Tulsa home crowd at the BOK Center. As Chavez' feet hit the ground, the brave group of COMMAND Fans sitting behind the end zone did their best to make a solid dent in that silence while the rest of KC's AFL team rushed onto the field to celebrate.

This reception earned Bradly Chavez the Cutters Catch of the Week award, by the Arena Football League.

Chavez is no stranger to winning league awards. In Week 5 he won the JLS Ironman of the Week award in the COMMAND's victory over the Iowa Barnstormers. Chavez had five catches for 72 yards and found the end zone three times. On Defense, he had 2.5 tackles on defense and two pass breakups on defense and returned a kick for six yards.

This is Chavez' first season with the AFL, but he has three seasons with the AF2, one with the Manchester Wolves under coach Danton Barto where he was named Iron Man of the Year in 2008. He led the team in receptions (86), receiving touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (33) scoring (202) and finished third on the squad in receiving yards (1,147). Chavez averaged 13.3 yards per reception for the Wolves in 2008. Chavez also led the team in fumble recoveries with three (one return TD) and finished second in tackles with 38 (34 solo, 8 asst). He also placed second on the squad in forced fumbles (3), tied for second in interceptions (2; 1 return TD) and ranked third in tackles for loss (5). Chavez, who was the only Wolves player to play in all 16 regular season contests, also recorded one sack, one safety and four pass breakups.
