Command Signs Former Baltimore Raven

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Command is pleased to announce the signing of former Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman and University of Southern California Trojan Derek Simmons.

Simmons is fresh off of a preseason stint with the Ravens this year. Prior to his time spent in the National Football League, Simmons played four years at USC (2007-2010). His senior season, Simmons registered nine tackles and one tackle for loss. He also spent some time as an offensive guard while at USC. His potential versatility could be an asset for the Command as they build the 2012 roster.

Kansas City also added two other new faces to begin the month of October, signing former Iowa State University defensive lineman Chris Lyle and former New Mexico State Aggie Marcus Allen.

Lyle played for the Indoor Football League's Tri-Cities Fever in 2011. As a senior at Iowa State in 2009, he finished with a team-high 13 tackles for loss and five sacks and ranked fifth on the squad with 69 total tackles. Lyle's junior year with the Cyclones he recorded 38 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and a team-leading five sacks. He played just one year of high school football in Waldorf, Mary., before heading to Butler County Community College.

Allen transferred to New Mexico State from Modesto Junior College after racking up over 1,100 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns his final season. .Allen had a solid first season with NMSU in 2009, catching 26 passes for team-best 308 yards and two touchdowns, followed by a senior season in which he led the squad with 42 catches for 598 yards and two scores.
