Comets Waive Three Players

HOUSTON - The Houston Comets announced today that the team has waived guard Nicky McCrimmon, forward/center Lori Nero and guard Maria Villarroel.
McCrimmon (5-8, USC '94), who signed with the Comets on February 6, 2004, was originally selected by the Los Angeles Sparks in the fourth round (63rd overall) of the 2000 WNBA Draft. She previously played with the Long Beach Stingrays and Atlanta Glory of the ABL.
Nero (6-2, Louisville '03) was re-signed by the Comets on April 24, 2004. Houston originally selected her in the second round (19th overall) of the 2003 WNBA Draft. Nero was waived by the Comets on May 21, 2003.
Villarroel (5-8, Oklahoma '04) was originally selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the third round (27th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft. Her draft rights were acquired by Houston from Phoenix on April 17, 2004, in exchange for the draft rights to UC Santa Barbara center Lindsay Taylor, who was picked by the Comets in the second round (26th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft.
